Correct, she married Ian Sinclair (RIP) who was himself champion in 96. Lorna has won 9 ladies championships at Grange, spanning 3 decades. A herculean task for anyone to surpass that, incl our current champion Donna on 5 with a trio of strong and youthful contenders snapping at her heels.
Roy Harley holds the record of 5 open championships so unless Rab on 4 were to activate his life membership, that record too is safe with a bunch of us stuck on 3.
Would anonymous happen to be an O-40 O'Brien Bucket winner by any chance ;-)
The board costs quit a bit, so as soon as enough members join Gameball instead of the competition fee, we will have funds for a handicap board.
The Bucket has been held every year since 1977, however the Jim More and the O-40 started later and lapsed for a year or 2 (or some selfish winners didn't bother getting the trophy inscribed).
Some memories there right enough. Can I point on behalf of Roy that he actually won it 6 times? I remember watching a final between Sandy Buchan and Drew Mackenzie when a fellow spectator told me she couldn't imagine how squash could be played at a higher standard than that. Don't tell Drew. I don't know if Ian Sinclair ever played Jimmy Litterick but that would have been feisty. Vicki Meakin - I had forgotten her which is strange as she was rather memorable. I take it she is long gone?
My apologies, ESClubber & R Harley for my inability to count. I take it was an otherwise enjoyable jog down memory lane for you. Interesting anecdote. Drew is still a force to be reckoned with. At the 30th anniversary of the club I had the pleasure of meeting Litterick and Buchan among others (Sinclair introduced us!) I saw Stone-Wigg play in Fitzwilliam Club, Dublin so I have actually seen everyone apart from Azzabi of the open champs for the last 35 years. V. Meakin is long gone, I'll find out for you when she was last at Grange. Are you on the board perchance, ESClubber?
Ah, the organiser said "what is seeding" as #3 Kevin Roberts and I went on court for the first round. Kevin went through 3-1 & played to form to reach the final with A Stokes. The irony was who I played in the plate final - the competition organiser! There endeth his lesson on seeding ;-)
In Nov 1994. That was the first time I came across John Nichol, Christine Barclay and Richard MacIntosh. If Aberdeen Uni Squash hadn't done a drinking tour of Ireland with some squash thrown in, it'd all have turned out all right for me. You ruined my life with that corkscrew serve. Ruined, I tells ya.
O'Brien Bucket, Jim MoOre!, over 40s, mens plate, ladies plate, over 50s now and the mini-leaguer of the year. Where would we stop? Though to be fair several have asked about the O'Brien and the Jim MoOre.
Being realistic, every finalist for the last 10 years is on a picture frame that should be hanging up in the corridoor, that is the real trophy board.
Some other clubs have boards of who was club president... I don't think the recent incumbents at Grange would merit that ;-) Seriously, they probably put more effort into the club than some of the club champions ever did.

I see that Christy Looby won the club championship in 2000, 2002 and 2003. He won the Men's Plate in 2001.

Definitely not on the board, not even close. I wasn't really meaning to be mysterious just seemed to happen that way.

Thanks Ken - somehow your posts aren't showing up on the blog, though I do get them by Email and re-post them for you.
I love that backhand hold that you do- you must have forearms of Steele to be able to flick it cross-court from so little back-swing, very deceptive.
