hosting Lloyds SRC tour of Edinburgh (Sat, Sep 24)

The boys from the City arrived at Grange on Sat morning, fresh from a stern examination by ESC the night before.
The squash at Grange was a bit more hospitable, though first on court Allan Hamer and Christy Looby treated their Lloyds counterparts Simon Engelen(Captaining the tourists) & James Taylor to 3-0 defeats. The pendulum swung the other way as Nick Wood was beaten 3-0 by Kit Welsh who retrieved like his life depended on it. And Andy Whitelaw succumbed to Oli Litterick on the same score.
New Grange member Tom McEwan who was instrumental in the tour coming to Grange took on John Butcher and got us a 3-1 win. Gary Walker lost to Matt Cosby 0-3 so it came down to Gavin Fulton v Bob Sherlock. This duly went to five games, with Bob shading it 3-2 and gaining a close overall win 4-3 for the visiting team.

Allan Hamer v Simon Engelen 3-0
Nick Wood v Kit Welsh 0-3
Gary Walker v Matt Cosby 0-3
Gavin Fulton v Bob Sherlock 2-3
C Looby v Oli Litterick 0-3
Andy Whitelaw v James Taylor 3-0
Tom McEwan v John Butcher 3-1

Lloyds' win 4-3, very close!

After the match, the touring team enjoyed pizza & a few beers in the Grange Pavilion. The banter was about the squash scene in London and Edinburgh and whether you should be able a certain ale in the french way "Deu-chars" and still get a drink!

Odds 'n sods: The calm before the storm

The calm before the storm when the first team matches start on Oct 3: the phony war has started with the winter mini-leagues and jockeying to get your favourite position in the teams.
In the mean time, you may be missing your regular bedtime reading material, so here are some alternatives; one of our members Jim McIntosh is on a sabbatical and you can follow his travels to Tristan da Cunha in the south pacific on his blog.

A new member Tom McEwan has given us a fortuituous team practice with a match against his old club Lloyds SRC on tour to Edinburgh this weekend.

The ladies team are deep in training with Simon Boughton and welcome another new player: Jacque White comes to us from the same club as Jaclyn Hawkes & Campbell Grayson: Herne Bay in New Zealand.

Gonna be a challenging season for the men but another upward one for the ladies: C'mon the Grange!
