Grange I v Colinton 3 (Tues 09.10.07)

Gerald opened up with a 5 setter against Hector Milne, 2-3.
Christy made Stuart Keane look quite convential, 3-1.
Al plugged away with Garry Speirs, came close to levelling it from 1-2, but finished 1-3.
Chris, who will be remembered tonight for choosing "set 1", taking game ball, then serving down - played good squash, but ended 0-3.
Mike was up against tough refereeing: "No let, 10-8", harsh, but correct, Christy assures us. And also Jonathan Nimmo, who played a game of patience, accuracy and deadly boasts, with which he eventually beat us. 1-3.

Colinton have a strong side, coming down from division 2, so we got reasonable points. But we were close to more, with Gerald, Al and Mike in sight of a win.

Overall 1-4, 9-18 .

Thanks to Christy for a hearty chilli with home grown potatoes, and to Margaret for keeping the bar open!

Man of the match: Christy, our only winner, but mostly for the potatoes.

Great report, but sorry Al, The MOTM award here is a travesty - it has to go to Mike and Jonathan, they started at 9 o' clock and at 10:15 they were still serving up the best squash I've ever seen in a league match at The Grange!
- Beating a crocked opponent and baking a few tatties a "Man Of The Match" does not make!

Looking at the scores, though I didn't see Chris play Mark Lord so I may be unfair to them but Chris also was "in sight of a win"

Mark Lord, Stuart Keane and Jonathon Nimmo were all playing division one squash last season and playing it well.

Look out for Todd Rutherford turning out for the Colinton team next half and it could be 5-0!

Taking that jestful comment at face value, if Todd turns out for CCS3 next half, it will be 5-0... to GRG1 seeing as team order has to be satisfied and if he plays #1 for CCS3 rather than CCS2, they will forfeit all the points. No, the only Rutherford we can see in Div 3 is Kim.

Messrs Lord and Nimmo looked like Div 1 players. Colinton 1 did them no favours when they did a late withdrawal, when they knew well in advance that they had no players. They should have merged the two teams so that at least JN, ML, GS and HM could have stayed in Div 2 as CCS1. They got a good workout against us because we are now relatively strong at #1,2,3 when we get our team out... but they beat ESC4 18-1 before ref bonus points added and it will be a similar trouncing for a lot of other teams in Div 3.

Surely it would be alright to play Todd as he's been injured for the last 18 months.

I'm sure the Colinton captains would check with the league sec before risking it.
Anything I say here is pure speculation ;-)

I'll see if we can entice Todd to turn out for one of the Myreside teams. I wonder which one....
