Grange Open 2011: Nov 11,12.

44 squash competitors declared themselves fit on the courts of The Grange Club at the weekend. Fife, Lothians and West of Scotland all represented along with a lone Grampian returnee, Chris Mair.

In A, B, C & D grades on Sat morning's first round clashes, they split: Winners progressed to the cups while losers went into a consolation competition for the plates. In the afternoon for the second series of matches, the competition heated up as this was a knockout stage. The A semis saw some ball-busting hits- Kenny Boyle lost out to Peter O'Hara who was crunching the ball into the nick at will with both players attacking at the earliest opportunity. The other semi saw a more tactical attritional game which was also fascinating, Iain Tennant held his nerve for a straight games win over Colin Grant.
On Sunday, the Ladies, C & D has semis in the morning. Donna Cruickshank held out in 3 games winning over Elaine Inglis but Richard van Lienden went out to Chris Weare. Donna lost her final to Senga Macfie but put up a very good performance.
In the A final, Peter O'Hara was dominant for 2 games but Iain Tennant was on even terms in the third and willed on by neutrals and supporters to give us a longer spectacle of squash. However it wasn't to be as Peter closed out 3-0.(Standing L-R David Ross(Abercorn LTC), Andy "Movember" MacLearnon(Titan Sports & Linlithgow SC), John Smith(Linlithgow SC), Chris Jeffrey(Waverley LTC), JJ McBride(CCSC), David Legge(Dunbar SC), Neil Kempsell(Waverley SC), John Rae(Mamma's), "Pistol Pete" O'Hara(Newlands LTC), Christy Looby(The Grange SC), Iain Tennant(Giffnock SC), Mahmoud Moaz(Edin Uni SC), Chris Weare(Watsonians SC), Georgina Jamieson, Donna Cruickshank(the Grange SC).
Squatting: Senga Macfie(ESC), Chris Brock(ESC), Ali Fleming(David Lloyd Newhaven), Richard van Lienden(the Grange SC), Richard Northin(Dalgety Bay SC)
